McAdams Wishing Well
The McAdams Wishing Well is a fund established in honor of Sheila McAdams, former teacher and principal of the Winthrop School. The fund provides resources for the teachers and staff at the Winthrop and Doyon Schools to meet the needs of their students and families by providing support in ways not covered by the school budget.
In her long career as an educator, Sheila McAdams was a source of hope and inspiration for many, with a vision for a vibrant, inclusive learning community where every child feels a sense of belonging. But that feeling of belonging requires nurturing, care and a personal touch from observant teachers and staff, who notice the small inequities that can begin eroding a child’s self worth. Not having a bathing suit for beach day, noticing that your friends have new clothes but you do not, seeing your peers enroll in an after-school sport when your family doesn’t have the funds. These needs were noticed and the children cared for by Sheila and her teachers for many years, supporting students and their families in non-traditional ways.
Please join us in raising funds in honor of Sheila McAdams, to continue her legacy and support the Ipswich elementary principals, providing them with the resources they and their teachers will need to sow that feeling of belonging.
